Let’s Play!

Playing sports is an important aspect of a child’s development -both physical and emotional.  It can be difficult to find  programs that allow an opportunity to experience several sports in a friendly, non competitive environment, taking into consideration the child’s abilities and learning styles.  In partnership with Sportball Hamilton, the Down Syndrome Association of Hamilton is pleased to support a summer program for our members that gives us this opportunity- 2017 Summer Sports.  We are excited to work with Coach Jake Weston on this opportunity.

This is a 6-week program, partly subsidized by DSAH, which will be run in two separate classes based on the child’s age:

Morning Session – 9:30 am at Victoria Park -look for us near the corner of Strathcona Avenue North & Florence Street.

An introductory session to allow kids and parents to participate in organized sports.  Each week, Coach Jake Weston will introduce the students to a new sport.  Parents are encouraged to participate and challenge their kids according to their skill level.  Siblings are welcome.

Sessions run on Thursdays for the following dates:  July 13, July 20, July 27, August 17, August 24 and August 31.

Evening Session – 7:00 pm at Victoria Park -look for us near the corner of Strathcona Avenue North & Florence Street.

A more advanced session reinforcing the benefits of team work and skill development.  Each child is encourage to gain confidence and develop the social skills through play.  Parents are encouraged to actively participate.  Siblings are welcome.

The cost for the 6-week session is $20 per family.  Please register soon to allow for Coach Jake to organize the logistics of running the sessions.

We would love to see a few volunteers help Coach Jake – please contact communications@dsah.ca to find more information.
